Day 14

  • Principle: As we come to comprehend the impetus behind the world's creation, we can build up a motivation to fulfill our creation.
  • Read: 1 Nephi 11:31 - 1 Nephi 12:10
    • Nephi sees the coming of Jesus Christ to the promised land and the calling of twelve disciples.  From verses 6 through 10 in chapter 12 what do you learn about the twelve disciples purposes?  Read 3 Nephi 12:1-2 for further details of their purpose.
  • Julie B. Beck taught about the critical role the creation plays in God's plan.
    • “In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we have a theology of the family that is based on the Creation, the Fall, and the Atonement. The Creation of the earth provided a place where families could live. God created a man and a woman who were the two essential halves of a family. It was part of Heavenly Father’s plan that Adam and Eve be sealed and form an eternal family. The Fall provided a way for the family to grow. Adam and Eve were family leaders who chose to have a mortal experience. The Fall made it possible for them to have sons and daughters. The Atonement allows for the family to be sealed together eternally. It allows for families to have eternal growth and perfection. The plan of happiness, also called the plan of salvation, was a plan created for families. The rising generation need to understand that the main pillars of our theology are centered in the family” (Julie B. Beck, “Teaching the Doctrine of the Family,” Ensign, Mar. 2011, 12)
    • Why is it important to understand that the earth was created to help exalt individuals and families?
    • A key element that is needed on earth is the priesthood power as restored through God's prophets.
      • Read D&C 2.  Why would the earth be "utterly wasted" without this restoration?
      • The sealing power, as restored by Elijah, binds generations.  How does understanding your place on earth help you fulfill your creation?  What decisions in your life would you make differently with the understanding that the world was created by Jesus Christ so you could progress to eternal life?
      • How can you/why should you express gratitude for Jesus Christ's creations?
