- Day 47
- Principle: Jesus taught that He is the Messiah.
- Read: 2 Nephi 9:1 - 9:14
- Over the next few days you will study 2 Nephi 9 which is one of the most descriptive sections on the atonement. Jacob starts off by talking about physical death, why does he call death the "awful monster"? (see also Alma 42:9 and Helaman 14:15–18
- Watch “Jesus Declares He Is the Messiah” (3:24) from The Life of Jesus Christ Bible Videos. The section of scripture this covers is Luke 4:16–21.
- Jesus quotes Isaiah at this time. Read Isaiah 61:1–2.
- Two other scriptures follow a similar pattern of Jesus testifying of himself:
- Matthew 11:2–5
- Luke 7:19–22
- Note: Messiah and Christ both mean "the anointed one."
- Why did Jesus testify of himself?
- How did Jesus fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah 61?
