• Day 54
    • Principle: Jesus suffered willingly and in so doing might willingly repent and not suffer.
    • Read: 2 Nephi 15:1 - 15:30
      •  In chapter 15, Isaiah speaks of the scattering of Israel.  2 Nephi 15:26 talks of an ensign.  What blessings are promised to those who head the invitation of the ensign?  What does this teach you of the atonement of Jesus Christ?
    • Read Mark 14:33–36Luke 22:39–442 Nephi 9:21; and Mosiah 3:7 and look for descriptions of Christs suffering.
      • What important truths are taught in these verses about Jesus Christ and the atonement?
      • Bruce R. McConkie taught:
        • “We do not know, we cannot tell, no mortal mind can conceive the full import of what Christ did in Gethsemane.

“We know He sweat great gouts [large drops] of blood from every pore as He drained the dregs of that bitter cup His Father had given Him.

“We know He suffered, both body and spirit, more than it is possible for man to suffer, except it be unto death. …

“We know that He lay prostrate upon the ground as the pains and agonies of an infinite burden caused Him to tremble and would that He might not drink the bitter cup” (“The Purifying Power of Gethsemane,”Ensign, Apr. 2011, 57).

    • Why?
      • Why would Jesus be willing to suffer as He did for you?
      • Look in John 15:131 Peter 3:18; and Doctrine and Covenants 19:15–19 to see what you can find out about Christ's willingness to suffer.
        • What about these reasons stood out to you?
        • Why did Jesus suffer for you?
          • One of the great blessings of the atonement is found in 2 Corinthians 5:21  “For he [God the Father] hath made him [Christ the Son] to be sin for us, who knew no sin [that is, Jesus knew no sin]; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him”
      • What does Christ's suffering and His willingness to suffer mean to you?
