The night sky is the best sky.
The night sky is the best sky. How easy is it to overlook, or look down, and miss the beauty that is there each night. It’s so easy to bury your head in your phone or TV and not look out the window. I know I am guilty of it.
There are many variety of stars in the sky and here will be highlighted just one. Variable stars and two stars that orbit each other causing a visible change in their brightness. Algol is one such star. The brightness dims about 70%. You can view this diming, use your favorite star chart or app (I use Star Walk, to identify where Algol is (in Perseus), and watch it as the night darkens. The best night for this is Thursday night where the star will be the dimmenst at 12:58 a.m. EDT Friday morning. The eclipsing binary takes about 2.87 days to go through a full cycle.
Take some time, look up tonight and find anything you can in the sky. And remember that people have been looking at those same stars for many many years.
